'Tried to sack her!' Commons roars as Angela Rayner savagely mocked in bitter PMQs clash

The House of Commons erupted during Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) after Angela Rayner found herself in a bitter clash with Oliver Dowden.

The Deputy Prime Minister claimed the Labour leader tried to “sack” Ms Rayner at the last reshuffle.

Standing in for Sir Keir Starmer at PMQs, the Deputy Labour leader asked Mr Dowden: “Will he tell us if the PM has a spine now, to stand up to the vested interests in his own party and finally deliver their promise to finally deliver to fault evictions?”

But Mr Dowden hit back: “I don’t think the PM is going to take any lectures on weakness from the party opposite.

“There’s a lot of talk about a reshuffle in the air from the Labour party.

“The last time the Labour party tried to sack the right honourable lady, she walked out with a promotion.”

But Ms Rayner criticised Mr Dowden’s answer, saying it is “pathetic for all those people facing homelessness on his watch”.

She added: “We will ban no-fault evictions, Mr Speaker.”
