This is the embarrassing moment an expecting couple were left in stitches after cutting into their gender reveal cake – to find no answer. In a viral clip viewed more than 14 million times, user Alyssa Quintos and her husband – excited to learn their child’s gender – open up the dessert using wine glasses. But the inside is neither blue or pink, the traditional colours used to indicate a boy or girl.
They couple made light of the situation on TikTok, captioning the moment: “When the bakery has one job.”
The pair are seen excitedly cutting into a cake only to reveal a plain vanilla cake.
Luckily, the two were able to laugh it off.
The video, which quickly went viral with many viewers left shocked at the mistake, has over a million likes and thousands of comments.
Some viewers joked about the situation, with one TikTok user commenting: “It is a human, congrats.”
While another added: “The cake shop are saying you will know when the time is right.”
A third commented: “Very 2023 of this bakery.”
Others added that the outside frosting appears blue and the bakery may have misunderstood the request.
Meanwhile, a baker also took to the comments to share their own experience making gender reveal cakes.
They said: “Whenever I make a gender reveal cake or cupcakes I’m terrified I will accidentally forget to add the colour inside! I write in ALL CAPS on the order.”
In a subsequent update, the soon-to-be mother posted another TikTok saying the bakery gave her a replacement cake for the mishap.
She told her followers: “I’m not throwing the bakery under the bus if you came here to find who this bakery is, you’re not going to find it because I don’t have anything bad to say about them, it was just an honest mistake.
“They were so apologetic about it. They made me a new cake as soon as they could the next day and they didn’t charge me for it.”
She added that the bakery told her that the reason for the mistake was a new staff member, who was inexperienced in gender reveal cakes, simply forgot to add the food dye.
