Single yellow line: When can you park on a single yellow line?

However, it is worth checking road signs carefully, as each council sets its own rules and time restrictions may vary across neighbouring areas.

If you fall foul of the rules and park when a restriction is in place, it can result in a penalty notice being issued to your vehicle.

Double yellow lines, however, are a bit different. As a rule of thumb, if you see double yellow lines, it usually means you cannot park there at any time.

There are, however, some exceptions to this rule. For example, you may be able to stop to load or unload heavy goods.

You should always check for any restrictions that may prevent this, which are usually indicated by yellow ‘kerb dashes’ and signs.
