‘Second fiddle’ Meghan ‘unsatisfied’ with royal response to her concerns after Oprah chat

Meghan Markle was “not satisfied” by the Royal Family’s response to the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ controversial Oprah interview, reports suggest. The Telegraph revealed that Meghan penned a letter to the King in the wake of the interview after the Duchess felt she did “not receive a satisfactory response” to the concerns raised in the interview, a source claimed. The King is said to be the only senior member of the Royal Family who contacted Meghan expressing concern over the strained relationship.

In the interview, released in 2021, Meghan and Harry told the US host there were “concerns and conversations about how dark” their son, Archie’s, skin would be when he was born.

The couple did not reveal who made the comments.

Prince William made a rare response to the claims during a walkabout, telling reports the Royal Family is “not a racist family”.

A source claimed the letters between Meghan and Charles made clear the identity of the family member who made the comments.

Charles is said to have told the Sussexes he is “disappointed” they made “such high-profile and damaging allegations”.

Meghan is believed to have thanked the King before telling him they were not accusing the individual but instead “raising concerns about unconscious bias”.

But another source said the correspondence had “not eased the tension between the two sides”.

Relations between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Royal Family have appeared strained since they made the decision to step back from royal life in 2020.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that Prince Harry would attend the Coronation alone while Meghan stayed in the US with Archie and Lilibet.

But reports claim that the young prince and princess were not invited to the ceremony.

Royal editor of the Telegraph Victoria Ward claims the “omission only fuelled their feeling that their family plays second fiddle” to the Prince and Princess of Wales.

While Prince George’s attendance is the only one confirmed of the Waleses’ children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are expected to attend.

As second in line to the throne, nine-year-old George will play a poignant role in the ceremony as a page for the King, forming part of the procession through the Nave of Westminster Abbey.

Meghan is reportedly staying home for a number of reasons, the main one being to celebrate Archie’s fourth birthday, which falls on the same day as the Coronation.

Reports suggest Harry will only stay in the UK for the day before returning home to join the family.
