WITH many of us reaching for the snack jar out of boredom during lockdown, Brits are bound to find that their favourite clothes are a little harder to squeeze into.
But thanks to this clever hack shared by a savvy social media user, there’s no reason to splash out on a whole new wardrobe if your clothes feel a bit tighter.
Sharing her genius idea to the Facebook group Extreme Budget DIY & Life Hacks, the woman explained: “Just a laundry hack I wanted to share.
“I am of that age now where my weight fluctuates a lot, so if I find my skirts, jeans and leggings are getting a bit tight, I wash them and use my airer to stretch them.
“I am usually a size 14-16 so I know this won’t work for everybody, but it works a treat for me.”
By stretching the waistband of any tight-fitting clothing over the side of her clothes dryer, the woman was able to widen to-small items of clothing.
This trick is best suited to natural fibres like cotton and wool. According to TheSpruce.com, man-made fibres like polyester, acrylic and nylon have less stretch to them.
Stretch also depends on how tightly a fabric is weaved: looser weaves are stretchier, while tighter weaves tighten or shrink more around heat or water.
The clever hack will undoubtedly come in handy for many people suffering from the so-called “Quarantine 15” – the name given to extra pounds gained from weeks of lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.
The advice comes after it was revealed nearly HALF of Brits have piled on 1lb a week since lockdown, with many people gaining 5lb or more in the first seven weeks.
If you are looking for a tried and tested method for shedding lockdown pounds, we reported on the seven basic steps to kick start weight loss.
The tips have been approved by the British Journal of Health and Psychology, who outlined a new “Prevail” programme. From eating your five a day to avoiding high-sugar foods, this guide has all the best tips for banishing bad food habits.
