Russia has attempted to justify the Kremlin’s choice to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus and dismissed NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg’s criticism of the move. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the Kremlin, stated to reporters that it was NATO that was expanding towards Russia, and not the other way around.
As a result, Peskov argued Moscow felt the need to take measures to safeguard its own security.
