Royal Mail issues Bank Holiday service update as disruption halts postal deliveries

The bank holiday weekend means many businesses operate differently and the same applies to Royal Mail.

Earlier this morning the postal service issued an update regarding postal delays in the UK, including the “most impacted” postcodes.

In addition to service changes for the long weekend, the courier announced disruption in a handful of local offices.

This means that while collections and deliveries were expected to operate as normal today, Saturday, May 27, not all households will receive their post on time.

Here’s what Britons need to know about sending and receiving post this weekend.

On its website, Royal Mail said: “Deliveries are operating as normal across the UK today. We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

They added: “Our usual weekend delivery and collection services are expected to take place on Saturday 27 May.”

However, the service reported some delays that will impact households in England and Scotland today.

According to the courier, this is due to “local issues” such as high levels of sickness absence, resourcing, and other local factors.

Royal Mail apologised for “any inconvenience” caused in the following areas:

  • Sandhurst DO (GU46 and GU47)
  • Westhill DO (AB13, AB14 and AB32)
  • Weston Super Mare DO (BS22, BS23 and BS24)

The service urged: “If you need to collect an item for which we’ve left a ‘Something for You’ card, please check royalmail.com/services-near-you for details of our Customer Service Point locations and opening hours.”

Sunday deliveries are planned to take place as normal on May 28, though this could be subject to change in local areas.

On Monday, May 29, customers should be prepared for a suspended service to honour the bank holiday.

Royal Mail said: “There will be no deliveries or collections of mail on Monday 29 May.

“Most of our Customer Service Points are open both Saturday and Sunday for you to collect urgent items for which we’ve left a ‘Something for you’ card.”
