The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s plans for May 6 came after “weeks of transatlantic ping pong”, it has been claimed. The couple, now based in the US, went through some delicate negotiations to decide that Prince Harry will attend the King’s Coronation alone. Meghan Markle is set to remain in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
As reported by the MailOnline, Harry’s decision to attend the Coronation is viewed as a “potential olive branch by royal insiders”.
This is following apparent earlier demands that “his family should apologise to him and Meghan if they were to consider coming”.
However, the newspaper did also state that Harry is not expended to attend anything other than the actual ceremony.
The 38-year-old is not expected to “take part in the procession after the service” or to join “other members of the Royal Family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace”.

The statement confirming Harry’s attendance, which was released on Wednesday, read: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.”
It also noted Meghan’s absence, stating: “The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
The statement comes over a week after the reported cut-off date for people to confirm their attendance – April 3.
The couple last visited the UK, as a family-of-four, for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations last June.
They travelled to London with their two children in tow, even celebrating Lilibet’s first birthday in the UK.
At the time, a royal source told PEOPLE that it was a “fantastic visit” , with the trip reportedly allowing the one-year-old to meet her grandfather, the now-King Charles III, for the first time.
