Prince Harry and Meghan feature in 'awkward' King Charles Coronation photo

The Sussexes have been featured in an awkward photo of the Royal Family as part of the souvenir programme for King Charles III’s coronation even though Meghan Markle is skipping the event.

An 84-page official souvenir for the historic event in Westminster Abbey has been unveiled.

It costs £20 and went on sale on Monday ahead of King Charles’ special day on May 6.

Awkwardly, it includes a full-page photo of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle alongside Charles, Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children.

It was taken back in 2018 to mark Charles’s 70th birthday.

But even though she is included in the photo, Meghan will not be jetting across the Atlantic to attend the event, instead opting to look after her children back home in Montecito, California.

What to expect from the Coronation

Archbishop Justin Welby said in the programme that the King will swap his “robes of status and honour” for a simple white shirt for the private anointing during the ceremony in the Abby.

The Archbishop added that Charles will come before God as a servant “in the full knowledge that the task is difficult and he needs help”.

He said: “In the full knowledge that even as a King, he is one of the people and that even if he has a particular role to fulfil, he shares in our human frailties and vulnerabilities.”

The crowning of King Charles will be followed by a spectacular celebration, Welby continued.

He explained that coronations “often carry with them the hopes and prayers of nations for peace, justice and the common good”.

Prince Harry will attend on May 6, it was confirmed last week, despite his bitter fallout with the Royal Family.

The Palace said in a statement: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.

It came after weeks of speculation as the world waited to see how Harry would respond to the Palace’s invitation.

But Charles is reportedly “very disappointed” that Meghan, Archie and Lilibet will not be present in Westminster Abbey on May 6, the same day Prince Archie turns four years old. But he is thrilled his son will be attending, according to a source.

A source told The Sun: “The King is happy that Harry, his son, who he calls his ‘darling boy’ will be at the Abbey. He wanted him there. It is sad, he is very disappointed that he won’t see Meghan or his grandchildren but understands the situation.”
