Petrol and diesel cars could be set for a massive £1,500 price rise under new proposals

“Obviously reducing the price of electric vehicles will help make this new technology more accessible, but it doesn’t make sense to hurt drivers that can’t necessarily afford these new vehicles.

“We must make it easier for motorists to make smarter driving choices that help the environment, but we can do this without pricing them out of owning a vehicle altogether.

“By shifting to a flexible car insurance and road tax model where motorists are charged based on their actual mileage, drivers can be rewarded for positive behaviour change.”

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has already announced its intention to implement some of the proposals made in the report.
