Murder investigation after man found dead near popular theme park

A murder investigation is underway after a man was found injured near a theme park and later died.

Police attended reports of an altercation in the early hours of this morning in Skegness, Lincolnshire, and discovered the 42-year-old victim lifeless near the Fantasy Island attraction in the seaside town. It is understood the altercation had happened in a car park.

Officers since closed roads and arrested a suspect on suspicion of murder.

“This morning officers arrested the 30-year-old man, in Ingoldmells. He will be questioned in due course,” a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Constabulary said.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, who has information, or dashcam footage between 9pm last night and 3am this morning in the Roman Bank area to get in touch by calling 101 quoting Incident 22 of April 6.”

Roads remain shut for the investigation, and drivers and pedestrians should avoid the area where possible, Lincolnshire Live reports. It also advised people to use alternative routes to get to where they need to if possible.

People took to social media today to pay their respects to the man.

Fantasy Island is a family theme park, which opened in 1995, and boast rollercoasters, water rides, amusement arcades and other sideshows.

A spokesperson for Fantasy Island said: “We are open today from 11am as advertised, however due to a police incident, access to our site is limited.

“Pedestrian access is available from Ingoldmells Village only at this time. Some of our operational procedures may be adapted, and there may be some ride closures in place in order to respect the sensitivity of the incident.”

Skegness, which fronts the North Sea, is itself a popular tourist destination. The first Butlin’s holiday resort opened in the Ingoldmells area of the town in 1936.
