Her former flatmate, Randy Wicker, said Johnson may have been hallucinating or jumped into the river to escape harassers, but she never intended to take her own life.
As heard in the documentary, several people came forward to the police, believing they saw Johnson being harassed by a group of men.
In 2012, campaigner Mariah Lopez was successful in getting New York Police to reopen Johnson’s case and consider it a possible murder.
After re-examination, Johnson’s cause of death was changed from ‘suicide’ to ‘undetermined’.
