Long range forecast: New maps show when Flaming June will come to crashing end

Temperatures have continued to soar all across the UK, with Britons enjoying the balmy June weather and glorious sunshine, however, a weekend washout is set to slash any hopes for fun days outdoors. The beautiful summer weather is set to be interrupted by heavy downpours and thunderstorms this weekend, despite the mercury possibly spiking to 29C in parts of the country, according to the Met Office.

According to the Met Office, temperatures are projected to rise on Thursday, Friday, and potentially reach 29C on Saturday.

However, the weekend will bring in clouds, rain, and thunderstorms, with humid nights.

The Met Office also anticipates that the upcoming weekend could see the highest temperatures of the year thus far.

Simon Partridge, forecaster for the Met Office, said: “It will get warmer but there may well be more cloud with heavy, thundery showers mixed in as well.

“There will still be plenty of sunshine around, but it will come with much muggier nights.”

Areas in south-west England and south-west Wales are set to see the hottest temperatures.

Looking ahead to Friday, temperatures will rise once again, accompanied by more humid air and the possibility of showers across south-west England.

The warmest temperatures expected on Friday, ranging between 26C and 27C, are likely to be experienced in central and southern England.

Saturday is anticipated to be the warmest day, with forecasters predicting temperatures to reach 27C or 28C, and a chance of hitting 29C in the London areas.

However, as the weekend approaches, there will be a risk of thunderstorms and showers spanning from the south-west to the north-east.

Netweather senior forecaster Jo Farrow said: “A change is on the way with very warm and humid air being pushed our way by a large low pressure which is impacting the Canary Islands today.

“Storm Oscar (named by AEMET, Spanish Met. service) will add to the unsettled weather for Portugal and Spain before it nudges northwards and shifts our UK weather.

“Along with the heat, there will be showers and potentially, a risk of thunderstorms for southern parts of the UK.”

And Jim Dale, senior meteorologist for British Weather Services had already warned of disruptive conditions for the UK.

Storm Oscar is set to peak by the middle of this week with the humidity spreading lingering the UK for at least two days afterwards.
