Lloyds Pharmacy, located in Sainsbury’s supermarkets, will be shutting down 237 of its branches by June 13, Pharmacy Business magazine reported, putting 2,000 jobs at risk.
The chain originally planned to close its UK sites by the end of the year but these have now been brought forward.
The news comes after the company announced restructuring plans and private equity firm Aurelius bought Lloyds Pharmacy from Sainsbury’s last year.
Lloyds Pharmacy is the second-largest pharmacy in the country after Boots and some of the affected branches are located in Newport, Derby and Gloucester.
