Kate is a 'royal phenomenon' where Meghan isn't for a key reason, expert says

Royal style expert Miranda Holder explained why, in her opinion, Kate is a “royal phenomenon” while Meghan Markle, and even the likes of the Queen, aren’t. A royal style expert claims Kate is a “royal phenomenon” when it comes to her fashion because he has consistently caused items to sell out.

She asked: “What makes Kate so special?” The key is her relatability, the stylist claimed.

She said: “Princess Kate, Princess Diana, Princess Anne, Megan and her late Majesty the Queen. What do they all have in common? They are all or have been very definitely fashion icons at some point in their lives.

“However, it’s been proven time and time again that the Kate effect and the influence that she has on the fashion industry is a royal phenomenon like no other we have seen before. So what makes Kate so special?

“One thing that she is relatable. When Kate first started dating Prince William, it was like a fairy tale and the world over was transfixed by the romantic notion of a commoner marrying into the British Royal Family, It was a story that we could all relate to.”

This was helped by the fact Kate wore high street garments, something non-royal women could do too, the expert said.

Miranda said: “Her wardrobe in the early days was made up of largely high street brands and we could all in our own ways emulate it and have our own little piece of Kate’s wardrobe.”

Kate wore items from High Street brands like Reiss and Zara, whose bosses have spoken out on the effect her wearing the styles has on business.

David Reiss, Founder, and Managing Director of Reiss told Marie Claire: “There is no question that Kate choosing to wear Reiss has impacted our brand. The surge in web traffic following the release of these images [of Kate wearing the brand’s Shola dress in 2011] caused our website to crash. The dress promptly sold out online when service was resumed.”

Designer Matthew Williamson has credited Kate for his clothes selling out and Whistles CEO Jane Shepherdson attests to the same effect on her stock.
