Hero homeowner takes on four would-be car thieves in fight on his drive – and wins

Video shows the moment a battle broke out between a stubborn homeowner defending his turf and four crooks looking to steal the man’s car.

The melee, which was captured on his home CCTV and released by police, has since gone viral. The footage begins with a man jogging up to a red car and hopping into the driver’s seat.

A few seconds later, another man sprints into the driveway – apparently from the home – and drags the man out of the car. The resident yells “Get out of here!” and “Who do you think you are?” as the incident unfolds in the US town of Rocky Hill, in the state of Connecticut.

The thief appears to get the better of the middle-aged homeowner, who is larger, but he refuses to back down, throwing the crook over his shoulders and lifting him into the air.

However, another man then sprints onto the driveway to kick the homeowner in the head and chest.

Two more attackers rush in and an all-out melee ensues, but the man defending his home remains undeterred, taking the fight to them.

A woman can then be heard screaming: “I’m calling the cops!”

The four crooks then bolt back to a dark-coloured sedan in the street before speeding off.

The homeowner was treated in hospital following the ordeal, according to police.

Rocky Hill Police Department released the footage and said they were still investigating the incident in the Hartford suburb.

“Thank God that he wasn’t seriously hurt. We’re seeing a lot of these incidents throughout the state and the country that people are intervening, and the suspect may have a weapon,” Police Sgt. Jeffrey Foss-Rugan told NBC News Connecticut.

Police have asked people not to approach would-be burglars and instead call 911 immediately.
