Mercury is in retrograde three, sometimes four times a year, when the planet appears to move backwards in the sky. The celestial event occurs in three-week periods and has a significant impact on the 12 zodiac signs, according to Western astrology. While retrograde is known for having a negative effect on communication between individuals, today offers a window of opportunity.
Known as the planet of communication, Mercury retrograde tends to bring a certain air of confusion for the 12 zodiacs.
The planet rules the “lower” mind which is responsible for how one perceives and interprets information received from their environment, and then relays it to others.
An expert at Cafe Astrology said: “Mercury has rulership over such things as speaking, negotiating, buying and selling, listening, formal contracts, documents, travel, the mail and shipping, and so forth.
“All of these areas of life are affected when Mercury is functioning in a sluggish state. Decision-making is challenged during Mercury retrograde.”

Though it can be a difficult time to progress relationships, careers and other aspects of personal life, Sunday, April 23 is different.
In fact, the position of the Moon today offers a rare window of opportunity to defy the impact of the retrograde and move forward.
The astrologer said: “The Moon spends the day in Gemini, and we crave mental stimulation and a variety of interests and things to do or learn.
“We’re exceptionally responsive and sensitive to what’s happening around us and more adaptive than usual. Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, forms a sextile with Mars tonight, and we can be especially alert and observant, as well as highly resourceful.”
The Gemini Moon encourages the basic instinct to communicate and think, which is powerful enough to go against the impact of Mercury’s position.
Learning is encouraged under the influence of the Moon in Gemini when there is intense motivation and desire to explore new avenues.
We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity, as explained by the astrologer.
They added: “The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.”

With more enthusiasm for conversations, and excitement about personal interests and discoveries, there is much to be achieved today.
The Cafe Astrology expert said: “We can have a strong desire to do something with our ideas, to learn, to teach, or to discuss.
“We are alert and aware, although possibly self-focused. We’re also willing to put in the effort and dedication necessary to further a mental interest or project.
“Even so, this is a better time for going over the past than making solid plans for the future due to Mercury’s retrograde. Reviving a past discussion or project can figure strongly now.”
