A FAMILY mourned the wrong body at a cremation after a mix-up between funeral directors and a hospital.
Grieving relatives watched the man’s coffin slip behind the curtain unaware their relation was still in the morgue.
Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey twigged the error a day later.
It is thought the gaffe occurred because the man, a Covid-19 victim, was in a body bag.
A source said: “The funeral directors had to call the man’s family, the hospital approached the other family.”
Co-op Funeralcare said it was the hospital’s responsibility to identify and release the correct body.
James Taylor, from Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are deeply sorry for the distress this has caused for the families involved.
