Donald Trump is to publish a personal letter from the King Charles in a new book – without the monrach’s permission, it is claimed.
The Telegraph reports that the letter will appear in a new book of personal correspondences with world leaders, public figures and celebrities due to be published tomorrow (Tuesday April 25).
Among others whose letters are reportedly to feature in the book are ones from the late Princess Diana, David Cameron, Simon Cowell and Vladimir Putin.
Charles’s letter, written in 1995 when the King was Prince of Wales, thanks Mr Trump for offering an honorary membership to the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
It wishes Mr Trump success in his new private members’ club, which the former president opened after purchasing the mansion, and expressed an interest in visiting.
He also reportedly suggested Mr Trump visit his Institute of Architecture in London.
The Telegraph says that in a letter sent on July 3 1997 – just weeks before her death – Diana thanked “Donald” for flowers he sent her on her birthday.
“They truly are quite magnificent, and I am deeply touched that you have thought of me in this special way,” she wrote.
In 2013, former prime minister David Cameron responded to a letter from Mr Trump complaining about wind turbines near his Scottish golf courses.
Signing the letter, David, Mr Cameron said that Britain was committed to a “balanced energy mix” that included renewables, but added: “We have made it clear that the need for renewable energy does not automatically override environmental protections.”
The Telegraph reports that the book also contains an exchange of letters between Mr Trump and Vladimir Putin in 2013, announcing the “exciting news” that the Miss Universe Pageant was going to Russia.
Mr Trump invited Mr Putin to be the guest of honour, with Mr Putin replying: “I hope that all the participants in this remarkable event will go home with good memories of their visit to the Russian capital.”
He added: “It is a pity that we were not able to have our meeting, but I hope we will be able to talk during one of your upcoming visits to Russia.”
Mr Putin later sent Mr Trump his “warmest greetings” after winning the election to become US president.
He wrote: “I hope that after you assume the position of the President of the United States of America, we will be able – by acting in a constructive and pragmatic manner – to take real steps to restore the framework of bilateral cooperation in different areas as well as bring our level of collaboration on the international scene to a qualitatively new level.”
The Telegraph says the book has its lighter moments. These include a 2009 letter from Simon Cowell to Mr Trump along with a tape with excerpts from Britain’s Got Talent.
Mr Trump had been in discussions over being involved in an American version of the show.
“I really hope it works out,” Mr Cowell wrote. “I would love you to be on it.”
