Dominic Raab set to be offered comeback with a new gig as GB News presenter

Dominic Raab may not be quietly settling on the backbenches after his sudden resignation from Rishi Sunak’s government but striking out in a new career on television. The former Deputy Prime Minister is set to be asked to join fellow Tory MPs Esther McVey, Philip Davies, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Lee Anderson on GB News as a presenter.

A senior source at GB News confirmed that the channel which is in its second year intends to reach out to Mr Raab to host a new weekly show.

The executive said: “He would do very well for us and it is rare that somebody of his calibre comes along.

“Jacob [Rees-Mogg] is already very popular with our viewers as are Esther and Philip.

“He would be a good fit for us.”

It is unknown yet whether Mr Raab will take the opportunity to remain in the limelight with his own television show.

However, with his political career in tatters after being forced to resign over alleged bullying, Mr Raab could seize the opportunity to use the show as a political platform.

He would also join fellow Brexiteer Nigel Farage as a GB News presenter as well as former DUP leader Arlene Foster, another Brexiteer.

Mr Raab may also be looking at the lionger term with a change of career with his Esher and Walton seat in Surrey a marginal at the next election and under threat from being taken by the Lib Dems.

So even if the Tories pull off a surprise victory at the next election, Mr Raab could still find himself out of Parliament.

Mr Raab has made it clear that he does not intend to go quietly or stay out of the public limelight.

In the report against him six of the eight complaints made by civil servants were dismissed while the other two he was criticised.

The former Justice Secretary has accused “a small group of antiVBrexit activist civil servants” in being behind a plot to remove him.

A sign that he might be willing to join GB News could have been given in that along with the BBC it was one of only two channels he agreed to give a broadcast interview to.
