“Searches are continuing across the area this morning – involving a number of resources including air support, and due to the current inclement weather conditions, I would ask members of the public not to conduct their own searches, and allow our Mountain Rescue colleagues to continue their enquiries.
Ms Plungiene is just one of several people who went missing amid the extreme weather.
Another rescue mission was launched in Brighton, East Sussex after a person, believed by locals to be a teenager, was swept into the sea near the city’s famous Palace Pier.
The incident occurred in the afternoon, prompting a frantic search by lifeboats and the coastguard helicopter along the shoreline. The operation continued well into the evening, with no news yet on the fate of the missing person.
