Four US states reported a combined 25,000 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Thursday, as the virus curve rose in 40 of the 50 states heading into the Fourth of July weekend.
The daily confirmed coronavirus cases nationwide climbed past 50,000, as 36 states saw an increase in tests coming back positive. Dr. Anthony Fauci called it a “disturbing week.”

“What we’ve seen is a very disturbing week,” Dr. Fauci, the government’s top infectious-disease expert, said in a live stream with the American Medical Association.
As the south and west continue to see a spike in positive COVID-19 cases, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, ordered the wearing of masks across most of the state after refusing until recently to let even local governments impose such rules.
Dr. Diana L. Fite, president of the Texas Medical Association applauded the mask order.
“There is no question about it, face masks reduce the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Fite.

Florida recorded 10,109 new cases on Thursday, setting a new record and making it the ninth consecutive day that at least 5,000 new cases have been counted, according to data from the Florida Department of Health.
The total number of COVID-19 cases statewide now stands at 169,106.
The states total number of cases has nearly tripled since the Phase 2 reopening began on June 5.
On June 26, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered the closure of bars, restaurants and businesses for the second time since the start of the pandemic. Beaches are set to close on July 3 through July 7.

California and Arizona clamped-down on social distancing measures and re-instituted the stay-at-home order[/caption]
The number of reported deaths of Florida residents rose to 3,617, including the first death of someone between the ages of 5 and 14. The death toll increased by 67 since Wednesday.
Hospitalizations in the state rose to 15,150.
Gov. Gavin Newsom, of California, and Gov. Doug Ducey, of Arizona, both reinforced social distancing measures in their states.

In California, the total number of confirmed infections statewide has surpassed 241,000.
